Inauguration ceremony of newly formed Dhaka Women Chamber of Commerce & Industries (DWCCI) was held at the Surma Hall of Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel, Dhaka on March 10, 2011.
Hon’ble Commerce Minister Md. Faruk Khan MP, Govt. of the Peoples Republic of Bangladesh was present on the occasion as the Chief Guest while, President of Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI) AK Azad, Ambassador of the Peoples’ Republic of China HE Mr. Zhang Xianyi and Ambassador of the Republic of Philippines HE Mr. Bahnarim Abu Guinomla were present as Special Guests.
The program began with inaugural speech by Sajeeda Minhaz, Sr. VP – DWCCI, who expressed her hope that government will initiate special measures to encourage women entrepreneurs in investing in new sectors. Special Guest, President of FBCCI Mr. AK Azad said, “If DWCCI comes forward in materializing their mission, they can create ample opportunities for the job market where 50% of the total unemployed workforce are women.”
Special Guest, Ambassador of the Peoples’ Republic of China HE Mr. Zhang Xianyi, welcoming this outstanding effort of DWCCI in his speech said, “This is a marvellous achievement. You have created an opportunity for millions of women in this country to get a job thus making a positive contribution in the steady growth of the national economy and capacity building of Bangladeshi women.”
Chief Guest Hon’ble Commerce Minister Md. Faruk Khan MP, made his speech. He said, “As the commerce minister of the state I must appreciate this mission by DWCCI. Besides achieving the main objectives of the mission, in-depth research works should also be carried out to facilitate women empowerment and to explore new arenas for investment. The government will initiate all measures to support their endeavours.”
The gala event was presided over by President of DWCCI Ms. Naaz Farhana Ahmed who in her brief speech said, “I fondly express my gratitude for our Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s support for our mission. Together we march forward; we want to free ourselves by eradicating poverty. We will establish a research centre (Nari Unnayan Gobeshona Kendro) to get feed backs to where we should focus upon.”
Crests were presented to different successful personage for their outstanding feat in different sectors. A documentary film show made on the working women of our country earned high appreciation from the guests.
A congregation of dignitaries from different sects of society were present to grace the occasion including ex-advisor Geety Ara Safiara Chowdhury, beauty icon Kaniz ALmas and media celebrity Shomi Kaisar.
